There are many components that make up a guitar. Some, like strings and keys, are obvious. Others, such as nuts, are less apparent, but they are still visible. But some elements of guitar can not be seen at all because they are hidden inside the instrument. This is the case with the reinforcing bar, a metal rod that runs inside the neck of a guitar. This part of the guitar has existed at least since the early 1900s, although it was not patented until 1921. Despite the fact that the reinforcing bar can not be seen, there is still an essential element of a guitar, one that can add both quality and longevity of a instrument.
Ideally, the neck of a guitar should have a slight relief, or bow. This form allows reasonably low action (see below) in key positions while allowing the high strings to sound clearly in low positions. A reinforcing bar is essential to maintain this relief optimal. As mentioned, the truss rod runs inside the neck of the guitar. Each rod has a mechanism that allows the rod to be loosened (moved toward the body of the guitar) or tightened (moved earlier in the neck of the guitar). The pin position can be done to compensate for variations in topography of the handle. These changes may be caused by various factors: changes in humidity, aging of the wood of the neck or additional tension in the chains guitar. It is this last factor that most often creates the need for reinforcing bar.

When a tension rod is the "double action" variety, this means that the rod can be both tightened and loosened. Not all bars in both directions: they can all be tight, but the standard tie can be loosened to some extent because in most cases, necked guitars need to be corrected rather than allowed to bend. With dual-action truss rod to tighten and loosen the two are possible, which means that the cervix can be made to bend forward or backward.
